Emergency Update on Haiti and Afghanistan

August seems to be a month filled with tragic global news. We’ve seen homes destroyed in Haiti, rocked by an earthquake and rising death count. We’ve been viewing the catastrophe unfold in Afghanistan as many Afghan and American allies attempt to flee from the Taliban. It feels like we can do nothing but sit back and watch in horror. But that’s not what Christians are called to do.

2 Timothy 1:7, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

We live in a day and age where technology allows us to aid those in crisis thousands of miles away from this. We can get real time updates via news, donate to relief funds, and gather our loved ones to pray. Christians are not hopeless in these situations. Here’s how you can help through out international affiliates:

Missions Door – Haiti

Through Missions Door, you can donate to Haiti Relief Fund. Currently 2,000 people have died from the earthquake, thousands are injured, and many are missing. The recent presidential assassination has created political unrest which has complicated relief efforts. Violent gangs are also making it difficult send essential resources to neighborhoods. Haiti is currently bracing itself for a big tropical storm.

If you’d like to donate to Haiti Relief Fund, you can do so here.

WorldVenture- Afghanistan

WorldVenture is now ready to help Afghan refugees, and you can financially support them. Afghan people have been displaced around the world, escaping the violence and destruction in their homeland. These refugees are in need of food, shelter, and clothing. They also need counseling for trauma brought on by the terrorism they’ve witnessed. Most Afghan are Muslim so this is an opportunity to declare and live out the good news of Jesus, loving others as we have been loved.

You can donate to Afghan Refugee Relief here.

We hope you keep these precious countries in your prayers and consider ways you can support them.

Sincerely,

David Whitaker, President
